Seeking understanding with diverse populations

University Park PA- There are more than 40000 students at the University Park campus who come from across the United States and the world to get a Penn State degree. The number of international students has grown significantly in recent years, especially among undergraduate students, a group that in 2008 surpassed 4000 for the first time. When two or more populations come together sometimes a gap can arise from lack of understanding by all parties. Merrill David is the Director of Global Connections, a community non profit organization that aims to bring people of diverse cultural backgrounds together in an effort to foster cross cultural understanding. With the help of this organization international students have a resource to draw upon to help alleviate the stress of learning a new culture and locals gain a unique opportunity to learn about people from different parts of the world.
