2/7/12Who doesn't have fond memories of favorite picture books from childhood? In celebration of the emerging children's book publishing industry in the U.S. and in recognition of the importance of the picture book in a child's development, the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), created the Caldecott Medal, awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
This year, Penn State's Steven Herb chaired the ALA committee that reviewed more than 1,000 books and selected the 2012 Caldecott winner -- "A Ball for Daisy," written and illustrated by Chris Raschka and published by Schwartz and Wade Books, an imprint of Random House Children's Books, a division of Random House Inc.
