Participants in this year's edition of the Road Scholars Tour stopped at Penn College on May 9, where they learned about the campus' offerings and toured the welding and fabrication laboratories in the Metal Trade Center. Participants also ate lunch at Le Jeune Chef, the student-run, four-diamond restaurant located on campus.

After two nights in Ohio Hall, a residence hall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, participants in this year's edition of the Road Scholars Tour packed their things and boarded a bus headed back toward central Pennsylvania on May 11. The three-day Road Scholars Tour is an annual event designed to introduce new and newly tenured Penn State faculty members to the University's Commonwealth Campuses and to the breadth and depth of Penn State's impact across Pennsylvania.

The final day of the tour began with a visit to the Drake Well Museum. The museum has a replica of Edwin Drake's 1859 engine house, where oil from the famous well flows into a barrel. Faculty learned how pioneer oil workers used one engine to pump many wells.

New and recently tenured Penn State faculty members were invited to join the three-day event, hosted by Penn State President Graham Spanier, who joined faculty members on the tour. The tour traveled to Penn State campuses, businesses and historical sites throughout Pennsylvania.

After a visit to the Penn State Great Valley campus, home of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies near Philadelphia, the final day of the 15th annual Road Scholars Tour moved to misty Longwood Gardens. Penn State alumni employed at the gardens, in Kennett Square, Pa., guided participants through the conservatory and around the grounds -- including a visit to a treehouse -- mixing history, plant savvy and behind-the-scenes information into their talks. The group also got a glimpse into the backstage workings of Longwood's open-air theater.

About 50 new or recently tenured faculty members from across Penn State embarked on the 15th annual Road Scholars Tour on May 10, along with University President Graham Spanier and Anne Riley, member of the University's Board of Trustees. The three-day bus tour, which left from the University Park campus, is meant to introduce participants to the University's Commonwealth Campuses and highlights Penn State's impact across Pennsylvania.
