Penn State Wilkes-Barre breaks ground on $1M career services center

Penn State Wilkes-Barre held a groundbreaking on Wednesday, Oct. 17, for the newest building on the 54-acre Lehman campus, to be called the Struthers Family Career Services Center. The $1 million Struthers Family Career Services Center at Penn State Wilkes-Barre will significantly enhance the ability to serve students from the five Penn State campuses (Lehigh Valley, Hazleton, Schuylkill, Worthington Scranton and Wilkes-Barre) located in eastern Pennsylvania.

Penn State Division I hockey comes to Wilkes-Barre

On the weekend of Oct. 12, the Penn State Nittany Lion hockey team will be making history by playing their first weekend of Division I intercollegiate hockey with two games against American International University. The second of their two weekend games will be on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Wilkes-Barre's Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Face-off will be at 7:05 p.m. in what is expected to be a sea of blue and white.

Interested individuals can purchase tickets by calling Chris Sipsky, director of group sales for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, at 570-970-3607.

Strategic plan's third goal bolsters sustainable behaviors, facilities

Penn State's University Sustainability Council is drafting the University's first strategic plan for sustainability. The council is seeking public input for five-goal plan during the drafting process. The third goal seeks to support and recognize efforts to make individual behaviors and facilities more resource efficient as well as celebrate the broader impact of Penn State through alumni and partners. "Goal 3 calls on us to 'walk the talk,' " explained Erik Foley, director of the Penn State Campus Sustainability Office, and member of the council. "Opportunities are everywhere to improve operational effectiveness, promote wellness and control costs through smart sustainability practices in our offices, labs, classrooms, residence halls and dining areas. And because Penn State thrives beyond our walls, especially through our alumni, Goal 3 also asks how we can further engage and recognize their sustainability leadership."

"Going green" is on so many minds today, especially in the building and construction industry, but just what does it mean to be a "green" company? And how does one "go green?"

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education is here to help. In the next month, Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be a host site for two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) seminars.
