Ajayan selected as 2013 Taylor Lecturer

The 2013 Nelson W. Taylor Lecture in Materials will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, in the HUB Auditorium. This year’s Taylor Lecturer is P. M. Ajayan, Benjamin M. and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor of Engineering at Rice University. His presentation titled “Putting Nanostructures in Place” will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The 12th annual Rod and Ceil Mortel Visiting Scholar in Cancer Research lecture will be held at 4 p.m. on May 2, in the Junker Auditorium on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine. "Understanding the Biology of Melanoma to Develop New Strategies for Therapy" will be presented by Meenhard Herlyn, director, Melanoma Research Center, Caspar Wistar Professor in Melanoma Research and co-leader, Tumor Microenvironment and Metastasis Program at the Wistar Institute.

Heard on Campus: David Wineland, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics

David Wineland, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics, gave the 2013 Eberly Family Distinguished Lecture in Science on April 11 in the HUB-Robeson Auditorium on the University Park campus. Wineland is known for his research on the world's most accurate atomic clocks. These clocks use ions -- electrically charged atoms -- as a super-accurate way of keeping time. Her talk, titled "Home (town) Security," will be held as part of Penn State's ninth annual Colloquium on the Environment speaker series. The event is free and open to the public.

The lecture series includes a presentation intended for a general audience, "Measuring the Universe," which will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, in 101 Thomas Building.
