Japanese performers coming to Penn State Hazleton on Jan. 23

Penn State Hazleton's Cultural Events Series continues as Taikoza, a group performing on a variety of Japanese instruments, takes the stage at 7 p.m. Jan. 23, in the Slusser/Bayzick Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Each and every Taikoza performance has one common theme: unique instruments combining for an original (and unforgettable) sound. The featured instrument is the taiko, a large, barrel-like drum that can fill the air with the sounds of rolling thunder. Taikoza uses taikos of various sizes, ranging from 2 to 6 feet, and weighing as much as 170 pounds.

Public invited to attend free cultural events at Penn State Beaver

The public is invited to attend two free cultural events in September at Penn State Beaver. Ball in the House, an a cappella group, will perform at noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Brodhead Bistro. The film, "In the Time of the Butterflies," will be shown at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Student Union Building auditorium.
