Luncheon lecture to focus on professor's experience in Singapore

At 12:30 p.m. Dec. 3, Mira Seo, associate professor of humanities at Yale-NUS (National University of Singapore) College will present "Professor Latino Goes to Singapore: Race, Classical Reception and Canonicity in 16th century Granada and 21st century Singapore," in Room 102 of the Kern Building.

This event is a part of the Comparative Literature Luncheon lecture series, a weekly, informal lunchtime gathering of students, faculty and other members of the University community. Each week the event begins at 12:15 p.m.; participants are encouraged to bring lunch, but coffee and tea are provided free. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a 20-minute presentation, by a visitor or a local speaker, on a topic related to any humanities discipline. All students, faculty, colleagues and friends are welcome. An assignment in an undergraduate Comparative Literature class at Penn State in 1977 now has led to Penn State alumna Nancy Marie Brown's fifth book, "Song of the Vikings: Snorri and the Making of Norse Myths," to be published this month by Palgrave Macmillan. Brown will present a free public lecture about her book during the Comparative Literature Luncheon at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in 112 Kern Building. The lecture is titled "The Hobbit's Northern Roots." Brown also will give a reading and sign books at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11, at Webster's Bookstore Cafe in State College.

At 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5, Daphne Lei, professor of drama at University of California, Irvine, will present "Thick Skin, Thin Mask: The Dilemma of Chinese Opera in the New Millennium," in Room 102 of the Kern Building.
