Beaver campus IST professor, students present research at conference in Spain

Kay Wijekumar, associate professor of information sciences and technology (IST) traveled to Spain with five of her IST students during spring break. The students presented the results of their research project at the eighth International Technology, Education and Development Conference in Valencia.

The students are all members of Wijekumar’s IST Integration and Problem Solving class, which focuses on real-life problems faced by businesses and organizations. The students conducted a hierarchical task analysis of eLion, which is Penn State’s Web-based service for students, advisers, faculty and parents that provides secure real-time access to academic and financial records in the University's administrative database. The students also followed the analysis with a usability test of the site. While in Spain, the students were also able to sightsee in both Valencia and Barcelona. Students on the trip were juniors Alex Boguszewski of Cranberry Township; Spencer Conklin, Beaver; and seniors Dorian Gilliam, Aliquippa; Joseph Benscoter, Beaver Falls; and Nicholas Bruce, Darlington.
