In honor of Black History Month, Penn State Greater Allegheny will hold a weekend celebration of community, food, and culture. The events are sponsored by Student Government Association, Black Student Union, and the Center for Academic and Career Excellence.
The weekend begins with a kick-off event on Friday, Feb. 14. A panel discussion will focus on discrimination and stereotyping. Issues will be discussed, such as: Where are we today? And, how can we break the cycle, take responsibility for these problems in our society, and make it better? The event will be held in the Ostermayer Room in the Student Community Center (SCC) from noon to 1 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 15 is Soul Food Saturday, in the Wunderly Gymnasium from 2 to 5 p.m. A huge soul food feast will be offered, along with a viewing of the movie "Fruitvale Station" starring Michael B. Jordan. Popcorn will be provided. The day will end with a post-viewing discussion.
