Students plan events to celebrate National Engineers Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A number of engineering student organizations will host events to celebrate National Engineers Week from Feb. 16 to 22.

Starting on Feb. 15, the Engineering Undergraduate Council (EUC) will host its free E-Week Kickoff Dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m. in Kunkle Lounge, featuring a live DJ and refreshments.

The EUC will sponsor a free chicken wing-eating contest at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 in Kunkle Lounge. Registration for the competition begins at 5:45 p.m. and requires a team of three or four people.

The organization will also host a study break luncheon at noon Feb. 18 in Kunkle Lounge. Celebrating the 2014 Winter Olympics, the free event will feature American, Italian and Chinese cuisine.

The Engineering Ambassadors will be doing hands-on activities and demos to commemorate E-Week from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in Kunkle Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.

The EUC will host a team competition at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 in Kunkle Lounge. Teams will compete in several challenges to win gift cards. Free food will be provided.

Penn State's EcoCAR 2 team will host its "Celebration for Engineers Week" at the Discovery Space children's museum in State College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22.

Cheyenne Sexton, the team's spokeswoman, said, "Our team members will help children and families with hands-on activities that are STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) focused. Our team will also be teaching the students about different STEM careers that are available to them."
