Women's tennis announces two signings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State women's tennis head coach Dawna Denny Wine announced the additions of Taylor Shukow and Dasha Sapogova to the 2014 roster Monday. The pair will join the team in January for the start of the spring semester.

"We are excited to have both Dasha and Taylor join our Nittany Lion family this spring," said Denny Wine. "Both girls are focused on team, which set them apart from other signees."

Shukow comes to Penn State from Boca Raton, Fla. where she trained at the Evert Training Academy while attending high school online through K12 International School. Shukow is a four-star recruit rated No. 121 in the class of 2013 by TennisRecruiting.net.

"Taylor has solid court sense and she has been steadily improving over her junior career," Denny Wine said. "Her best tennis is ahead of her."

Originally a competitive gymnast playing tennis on the side, at the age of 13 Shukow dedicated her time solely to tennis. Working closely with Chris and John Evert at their Training Academy, Shukow has competed in numerous ITF and USTA events.

Sapogova hails from Belarus, Minsk having spent the previous five years in Spain. She attended high school at School IPSE in Barcelona. Sapogova has competed in many ITF tournaments around the world including Spain, Turkey, Greece and France.

"Dasha is a gritty player who does not like to lose," said Denny Wine. "She is willing to do whatever is needed to continue with the success of our program."
