Academic Convocation features signing of Penn State Principles

Penn State Greater Allegheny's annual academic convocation was held on Friday, Aug. 23 in the Wunderley Gymnasium. Members of the faculty and staff of Penn State Greater Allegheny welcomed first-year students and their families to campus during the annual event.

The convocation celebrated the campus’ dedication to student-centered success, global education, and community engagement.  Since its beginning at the current location in 1957, the Greater Allegheny campus continues to serve as a key factor in the revitalization of Pennsylvania’s southwest region.

During the program, the incoming students signed the Penn State Principles, which were developed to embody the values that Penn State hopes its students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni possess.

Chancellor Curtiss E. Porter served as master of ceremonies along with Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Director of Academic Affairs, Margaret Signorella. Associate Professor of English Mildred Mickle welcomed the new students on behalf of the faculty senate, and Student Government Association President Jacqueline Dell delivered the student government welcome.

After the ceremony, students and their families met the faculty and staff at a luncheon in the Student Community Center.
