Schreyer Institute prepares programs

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will present the following workshops in Room 315 Rider Building:

-- Kathy Jackson and Larkin Hood, instructional consultants with the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will lead “Getting the Most from Your Mentor” from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. March 27. Going it alone is not a recommended path for new professors. With all of the new opportunities and expectations, you may feel you don’t have any time for relationships. Yet you need support and guidance. During this session, we hear from a faculty member with mentoring expertise, and we will listen to your perspectives on the mentoring you have received. At the end, you should leave with some new ideas on how to enhance your mentoring experiences. Participants are free to bring their own beverages and lunch. To register, visit http://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/Events?id=10540.

-- Lauren Kooistra and Andrew Porter, graduate consultants with the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will lead “GA 103: Learning-Focused Assessment & Evaluation” from 1:45 to 3 p.m. March 27. This interactive workshop will focus on time-effective student assessment. Time will be spent on learning how to develop pre-assessments, design rubrics, collecting and using mid-semester feedback, using engaging classroom assessment techniques and tips and tricks for writing effective exam questions. This workshop is part of a three-seminar series focusing on best practices for integrated teaching and learning. All graduate students are welcome. To register, visit http://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/Events?id=10579.

-- Kooistra and Porter will also offer “GA 103: Learning-Focused Assessment & Evaluation” from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 28. To register, visit http://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/Events?id=10580.
