Dr. Judah Cohen to discuss Holocaust-themed musicals

Middletown, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg’s Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies will continue its 2012-13 calendar of events with a presentation by Judah Cohen titled “If Anne Frank Sings: Musical Theater and American Holocaust Memory” at 6 p.m. Feb. 21, in the Quiet Study, second floor, Capital Union Building.

Cohen received his doctorate from Harvard in 2002 and is now the Lou and Sybil Mervis Professor of Jewish Culture at Indiana University, Bloomington. In 2011, he received the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award and the Greater Hudson Heritage Network Award for Excellence for his book “Sounding Jewish Tradition: The Music of the Central Synagogue.” Cohen’s research ranges broadly, from Jewish and American music to Caribbean Jewish history.
