Lose weight and feel great the heart healthy way

Serious weight loss requires a serious weight management program. Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute (PSHVI), Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center offers a 12-week program, led by experts in behavioral modification, nutrition, and exercise that will help those who need to lose up to 50 pounds.

The program begins Feb. 4, and meets Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Campus Health and Wellness Center, Cardiac Rehab and Wellness, located on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Free, convenient parking is available in parking Lot K, immediately adjacent to the entrance.

Being overweight is a serious health hazard that increases a person’s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer. This program helps individuals identify factors of weight gain and develop heart healthy strategies to lose the extra pounds.

According to Penn State Hershey behavioral specialist John Horn, “The PSHVI Weight Management Program examines how family predisposition, behavior patterns, dietary habits, and lack of exercise contribute to weight gain.” A monthly support group also will be available to those who complete the program.

The cost of the program is $225, which may be reimbursed to Medical Center employees who qualify. Pre-registration is required. For more information and to register, call the CareLine at (800) 243-1455.
