Women's self-defense classes available in April

Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), a self-defense class for women students, will be offered as a series of four classes from 6-9 p.m. on April 13, 15, 20 and 22 at 117 Weston Community Center at the White Course apartment complex on West Campus at University Park. Participants must attend all four sessions.

Registration for the free basic introduction to self-defense techniques is available for currently-enrolled women students from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday in 204 Boucke. Certified instructors from Penn State University Police provide students with realistic and usable defense tactics with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance options. Lectures and extensive hands-on training enable students to develop confidence and proficiency. Participants earn a free lifetime practice policy to return to any RAD class anywhere.

The class is funded by the Giardini Endowment for the Empowerment of Women Students. For questions, call (814) 863-2027 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
