Still Life: Graduates celebrate summer commencements

University Park, Pa. -- On Saturday (Aug. 14), approximately 2,168 students were conferred as Penn State's newest alumni. At the 10 a.m. undergraduate commencement, four associate degree recipients and 1,391 baccalaureate degree recipients were recognized along with Indra K. Nooyi, chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, who received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Penn State. Nooyi also gave the commencement address. At the 2:30 p.m. graduate commencement, Penn State conferred degrees upon 495 master's degree recipients and 278 doctoral degree recipients. Both commencement events were held at the Bryce Jordan Center. University-wide, Penn State conferred an estimated 2,846 degrees in summer 2010, bringing the total number of Penn State graduates to 663,406.
