United Way committee approaches $5,000 goal

The Penn State Beaver United Way of Beaver County Committee is close to reaching its $5,000 goal for the year.

On Friday, Nov. 12, the group raised a record $1,550 at its annual luncheon and auction in the Student Union Building Lodge. The event was open to all faculty, staff, and students. To date, the group has raised more than $4,400 through on-campus programs, projects and faculty/staff payroll deductions.

"We try to remind our co-workers that any donation, even as little as $5 per month, can make a difference in the total amount we raise," said Dana Alvetro, co-chair of the United Way Committee and program assistant in the Office of Continuing Education. “More importantly, our gifts go directly to the United Way of Beaver County which, in turn, channels our funds directly to the people in our area who are most in need." Committee co-chair Jennie Ward is a staff assistant with the registrar and the Division of Undergraduate Studies.

Other United Way committee members are Roy Boggs, staff member, Office of Physical Plant; Carleen Dinello, assistant director of academic affairs and senior instructor in reading and English; Cindy Platz, staff assistant, Office of Business and Finance; Renata Shaw, staff assistant, Office of the Chancellor and Office of Campus and Community Relations, and Claudia Tanaskovic, lecturer in chemistry.
