Raj Mittra, professor of electrical engineering, was awarded the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2011 James H. Mulligan, Jr. Medal. The honor recognizes contributions made to education, engineering research and research training in electromagnetic communication. He will receive the award next August at the 2011 IEEE Honors Ceremony in San Francisco. A member of the Penn State faculty since 1996, Mittra also serves as director of the Electromagnetic Communication Laboratory.
He is a life fellow of the IEEE, a past president of IEEE's Antennas and Propagation Society and former editor of the Transactions of the Antennas and Propagation Society. Mittra has served as a visiting professor at Oxford University and the Technical University of Denmark. He has published more than 700 journal papers and more than 35 books or book chapters. Mittra holds three patents in communication antennas.
