Campus announces appointment of health services nurse

Barbara Kugel has been appointed as the Penn State Beaver campus health services nurse, effective Monday, Aug. 8.

Kugel has been the certified school nurse for Seneca Valley School District since last year. She also has been a substitute school nurse for the Western Beaver County School District, Big Beaver Falls, Freedom, Seneca Valley, Hopewell, Beaver Area and South Side Area school districts.

Since 2007, she has been an instructor in the Personal Care Home Administrator Training Program offered by the Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education. She was director of the Diabetes Education Center for UPMC Beaver Valley/ACH Hospital from 1999 to 2007 and worked as a registered nurse for the Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley, for two years.

Kugel was a diabetes educator/coordinator/triage nurse with Sentara Health Plan in Virginia from 1995-1998 and was a registered nurse for Sentara Hampton General Hospital from 1992-1995.

She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from Carlow University, a school nurse certification from Slippery Rock University, and an associate degree in nursing from Thomas Nelson Community College, Va. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, the National Association of School Nurses and the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners.
