'Rock of Ages,' set for Jan. 25 at Eisenhower, brings back '80s

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Tease your hair and get your cutoff shirts ready. The worldwide party musical "Rock of Ages" will bring favorite hits from the 1980s to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus.

Section one and two tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $59 and $53 for an adult, $44 and $38 for a University Park student and $54 and $48 for a person 18 and younger. Buy tickets online at www.cpa.psu.edu or by phone at 814-863-0255. Outside the local calling area, dial 800-ARTS-TIX. Tickets are also available at four State College locations: Eisenhower Auditorium (weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Penn State Downtown Theatre Center (weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), HUB-Robeson Center Information Desk (weekdays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. resuming Jan. 9) and Bryce Jordan Center (weekdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). A grant from the University Park Allocation Committee makes Penn State student prices possible.

A five-time Tony Award nominee, Rock of Ages is an arena-rock love story told through the hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more.

In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl meets a big city rocker. In Los Angeles’ most famous rock club, they fall in love to the greatest songs of the 1980s.

Rock of Ages features a mix of 28 rockin’ ’80s tunes including “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “We Built This City,” “The Final Countdown,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “Here I Go Again,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

Some of the costumes, dancing and language might not be appropriate for kids younger than 14. Parents should use their best judgment about whether the show is appropriate for their children.

Audio description, which is especially helpful to patrons with sight loss, is available for this performance at no extra charge to ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints, an informal moderated discussion featuring Rock of Ages Company Manager Arthur Callahan, is offered in Eisenhower one hour before the performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity. Seating is available on a first-arrival basis.
