Penn State child care centers have openings in preschool rooms

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Bennett Family Center and the Child Care Center at Hort Woods, both on the Penn State University Park campus, are accepting children ages 3 to 5 into their preschool rooms.

Both centers offer classrooms with mixed-age groupings in which children learn from each other as well as from the teachers. Large outdoor play areas, as well as the Penn State campus and surrounding town, extend the learning environment. The centers use and develop curricula that are driven by the children's interests. As a result, the children learn primarily through curricula of their own choosing that is based on play and exploration of their environment.

Parents and caregivers who are interested in learning more about either center are invited to attend open houses to be held at both centers from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, and from 9 a.m. to noon and from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug., 21.

Both centers are administered by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Health and Human Development. The Child Care Center at Hort Woods also is managed by Hildebrandt Learning Centers.
