The University Faculty Senate will meet on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in 112 Kern Graduate Building. The items below will be considered at the meeting.
In an effort to support Penn State’s sustainability goals and to conserve resources, Senate meeting agendas will no longer be provided in a print-based format. Senate agendas will be posted on the Senate homepage at http://www.senate.psu.edu/ and a reminder will be sent to faculty senators approximately one week before each meeting.
-- At the request of Liberal Arts Senator Keith Nelson, the Senate will conduct a Forensic discussion on the NCAA sanctions, the process by which they were negotiated and agreed to, and possible statements by the Senate to the public and to the NCAA in relation to all these issues.
-- A vote will be taken on revisions to Senate policies 02-50, 06-30, 06-57, and 06-70 dealing with provisional students and advanced standing admissions.
-- The Senate will also vote on recommendations for improving resources for LGBTQ students and on recommendations for increasing intercampus research connectivity.
-- Linda Caldwell, Division I NCAA faculty athletics representative, will give an update on academic eligibility and athletic scholarships.
-- David Lieb, associate vice president for development, will give a presentation on the progress of the University’s comprehensive capital campaign, For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students, including information on how faculty can become engaged in the fundraising process.
-- Annual reports will be received from the Senate Committee on Faculty Rights and Responsibilities and the Joint Committee on Insurance and Benefits, and on high school students enrolled in nondegree status in credit courses.
Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the Chair, through the Executive Director, at least four calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
