Civil engineering's Edwards named fall commencement student marshal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Rebecca A. Edwards will be the student marshal for the College of Engineering at Penn State's fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 22. She will receive a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering with a minor in watersheds and water resources.

She has chosen Norman D. Folmar, director of undergraduate programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, to be her faculty escort.

College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

Edwards is the daughter of Laura and James Edwards of Glen Campbell, Pa.

She received numerous awards and scholarships during her undergraduate career, including the Excellence in Water Resources Engineering Award, the Excellence in Mathematics Award, the Helen Fiedler Heckert Scholarship, the Helen Wood Morris Scholarship, the Joseph R. and Mary Reed Scholarship and the Gary and Ralphine Gentzler Trustee Scholarship. She was named to the dean's list every semester.

Edwards' extracurricular activities included Engineers Without Borders and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

She worked as a researcher in glaciology at Penn State during the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Following graduation, Edwards will pursue a master's degree in environmental engineering at Penn State.
