James Braxton Peterson to deliver Diversity Speaker Series lecture

On Jan. 23, Penn State Schuylkill will present the second lecture of the 2012-13 Diversity Speaker Series. James Braxton Peterson, director of Africana Studies and associate professor of English at Lehigh University will deliver the lecture. The title for Peterson’s speech is “The Post-Obama Election and The Dream of Martin Luther King.” His talk will be preceded by a musical performance by the Gatling Sisters, of Harrisburg, Pa.

Peterson is founder of Hip Hop Scholars LLC an association of hip-hop generational scholars dedicated to researching and developing the cultural and educational potential of hip-hop, urban and youth cultures. He has appeared on Fox News, CBS, MSNBC, ABC News, ESPN and various local television networks as an expert on race, politics and popular culture. In addition to Lehigh University, he has held positions at Princeton University, Bucknell University and Harvard University.
