Free 'We Can!' Energize Our Families Program enrollment now open

Penn State Hershey Center for Nutrition and Activity Promotion (CNAP) will launch Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition! (We Can!) Energize Our Families, a national education program from the National Institutes of Health to prevent obesity among youth ages 8-13.

The We Can! Energize Our Families is a free six-session program offering dynamic activities for parents and other caregivers to discover ways in which they can achieve a healthy weight in their family. These fun, hands-on sessions will demonstrate essential skills that encourage making healthy food choices, becoming more physically active and reducing recreational screen time. In addition, youth ages 8 to 13 will participate in a weekly one-hour session with Dave Brixius, owner and professional trainer at Explosive Sports Performance. These sessions will involve actively learning simple and fun physical activities that can be done at home to reduce sedentary time.

One-hour sessions will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Feb. 19 through March 26, at Penn State Hershey Medical Group — Nyes Road, 121 Nyes Road, Suite A, Harrisburg, Pa.

Registration is free but required at www.nrgbalance.org/wecan. For additional information or to register, contact Barbara Blatt at 717-531-1440 ext. 4 or bblatt@psu.edu.
