Men's hockey ranked No. 1 for first time in program history
The Penn State men's ice hockey team earned the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking earlier Monday afternoon after receiving a program-high 30 first-place votes in the latest uscho.com poll.

Homecoming, Military Appreciation weeks to run concurrently in 2017
The 2017 Homecoming Executive Committee and Penn State Military Appreciation Committee have announced that the 2017 Penn State Homecoming and Military Appreciation weeks will both be held Nov. 5 to 12. The 2017 Penn State Homecoming and Military Appreciation Game is set for Veterans Day, Nov. 11, against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Beaver Stadium.

Robinson Fruchtl honored at NCAA convention
Former Penn State women's basketball great Susan Robinson Fruchtl was honored as one of six recipients of the 2017 NCAA Silver Anniversary Award on Jan. 18 at the NCAA Honors Celebration inside the the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Sarah Nielsen nominated for 2017 Hockey Humanitarian Award
Senior Sarah Nielsen has been nominated for the 2017 Hockey Humanitarian Award, as announced by the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation on Jan. 19. Nielsen is one of 15 student-athletes, and one of five female student-athletes, nominated for the award. She joins David Goodwin of the Penn State men's hockey program on the nominee list.

Gibson named Big Ten athlete of the week
Currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA this season in the triple jump; Dannielle Gibson has been named the Big Ten Women's Co-Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan, Freund garner Big Ten awards for second time
Penn State senior Shane Ryan and freshman Kaelan Freund both picked up where they left off last semester, as the two Nittany Lions were named the Big Ten Men's Swimmer and Freshman Men's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, for the second consecutive time Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference office.

Nugent, Gear named EIVA players of the week
After leading Penn State men's volleyball (2-2) during a split weekend on the road against No. 15 Ball State and IPFW, senior Chris Nugent and redshirt-junior Kevin Gear have earned their first conference weekly awards of the season, being selected as the EIVA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

After capturing the floor exercise title at the West Point Open, freshman Favian Valdez notched Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the conference office for the week ending Jan. 15.

Watkins named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
Mike Watkins was named the Big Ten's co-Freshman of the Week after leading the Penn State men's basketball team to a comeback win over No. 24 Minnesota, the league announced Monday.

Women's athletics pioneer Marty Adams passes
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics mourns the passing of one of the pioneers of its women's athletics program, Martha (Marty) Adams, who died on Jan. 12 in State College. She was 90.

EVENTS:

Penn State to host national collegiate table tennis tournament Jan. 21
Penn State will host the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association's Pennsylvania division tournament at 10 a.m. on Jan. 21 in the Intramural Building. The event will feature a number of high caliber players, including two Olympians and a former member of the New Zealand national team.
