John Badding is a professor of chemistry, physics, and materials science and engineering. He is also the associate head for Equity and Diversity, and the director of graduate recruiting. He has made significant advances in solid state optical fibers, which have transformed the telecommunications industry. He has also introduced a new form of carbon nanotube which researchers suspect will be much stronger than traditional glass fibers and will have a host of new practical uses in communication and beyond.
