Graduate assistantship stipends to increase 3 percent in fall 2016

A 3 percent increase in stipends for graduate assistants at Penn State, beginning with fall 2016 appointments, was announced today (May 26) by University President Eric J. Barron and Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas P. Jones, pending approval of the University’s 2016-17 operating budget by the Penn State Board of Trustees in July.
Burrowes Building rededication to include University leadership, building tours

A dedication ceremony marking the completion of major renovations to Burrowes Building will take place from 10 a.m. to noon April 16. The public event will include light refreshments and tours of the Digital English Studio, the Brain and Language Laboratory, the Hemingway Room, the Elm Room, and other signature spaces throughout the building. Penn State dignitaries slated to speak included President Eric Barron, Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas Jones, Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts Susan Welch, and Evan Pugh University Professor of English Robert Hume.
Provost award increases to $1,500 for students accepted into STEP

Penn State Provost Nicholas Jones has approved a 50 percent increase in the amount of scholarship dollars for rising juniors from the Commonwealth Campuses who are part of the 2016 Student Transitional Experiences Program (STEP). These students will now receive a $1,500 STEP Scholarship Award, up from the $1,000 awarded in previous years.
2016 TLT Symposium announces keynote speakers

The keynote speakers for the 2016 Penn State Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology will be Nicholas Jones, Penn State executive vice president and provost, and Mimi Ito, author and globally recognized expert on how people use mobile technologies and new digital media. Both keynotes will provide insight on transforming education through engaging learning experiences for students. This year’s symposium will be held March 19 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

Nicholas P. Jones, the Benjamin T. Rome Dean of the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, will serve as executive vice president and provost at Penn State, effective July 1, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees at its May 3 meeting. The executive vice president and provost is the University’s chief academic officer, reports directly to the president, and acts as chief executive officer in the absence of the president.
