Should I get vaccinated if I’ve already had COVID-19?

If you are one of the millions of Americans who have already had COVID-19, you may be wondering if you need to get the vaccine when it’s available to you.

According to Elizabeth McGraw, professor and Huck Scholar in entomology, the answer is, “Yes.”

“Recent studies on people who contracted COVID-19 early in the epidemic show that their antibody protection is lasting at least eight months and potentially longer,” she said. “However, we do know that antibody protection can wane with time and sometimes very quickly in individuals who are immunocompromised or older, so it’s important that you still get the COVID-19 vaccine even if you’ve had the disease in the past.”
