UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will host the following workshops:

-- New Instructor Orientation, which is a self-paced online program, from Monday, Jan. 12, through Friday, Feb. 13.

This online, self-directed workshop, open to all new instructors at Penn State, is offered at the start of each semester through ANGEL, Penn State’s course management system. The workshop will provide a brief introduction to the resources and strategies that are crucial to good teaching and planning. Information about accessing ANGEL will be provided to participants via email.

In order to receive a letter of completion, participants will need to complete two assignments. Completion of the New Instructor Orientation satisfies a requirement of the Graduate School Teaching Certificate.

-- Making the Most of Your TA Experience from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in Room 315 Rider Building, University Park

Because teaching assistants are situated between faculty and students, the role requires unique skills in navigating potentially challenging situations. In this interactive workshop, graduate consultants Stephen Van Wert and Whitney Zimmerman will consider common problem situations and discuss ways to resolve them.
