Skoff earns Big Ten Third Star of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- For the second time this season, Penn State men's hockey junior goaltender Matthew Skoff (McKees Rocks, Pa.) was named the third star of the week by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday (Oct. 28) morning.

Skoff put together back-to-back showings to help the Nittany Lions sweep their first series at Pegula Ice Arena, beating Holy Cross by scores of 3-1 and 7-1. For the weekend, Skoff stopped 57 of the 59 shots he faced and allowed just a 1.00 GAA.

On Friday, he saved 29 of 30 shots including 14 first-period shots against the Crusaders. On Sunday, he saved 28 of 29 shots in the 7-1 victory. Skoff has started in all six games this year for the Nittany Lions, who are off to their best start in the Division I era at 3-1-2.

The weekly honor is the third of Skoff's career after picking up the second star of the week Feb. 11, 2014 following a 4-0 shutout of Michigan in addition to being named the third star of the week Oct. 14, 2014. Minnesota senior forward Travis Boyd and freshman forward Dylan Larkin of Michigan were tabbed the first and second stars of the week, respectively.

NEXT TIME OUT
Penn State welcomes Bentley for a Thursday-Friday series at Pegula Ice Arena. Both games are slated for 7 p.m. as the Nittany Lions look to cap a four-game home stand with a perfect record.
