‘Conversations LIVE’ to discuss infectious diseases

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Sixteen percent of deaths each year are caused by infectious diseases according to the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

On the next installment of WPSU-TV’s "Conversations LIVE," disease experts Andrew F. Read and Dr. Jose A. Stoute will discuss the return of preventable diseases, the rise in drug resistant super-bugs and the evolution of new contagious outbreaks. Read and Stoute will join veteran host Patty Satalia for the discussion.

"Conversations LIVE: Infectious Disease" will air at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, on WPSU-TV, WPSU-FM, WQLN-TV in Erie and www.wpsu.org. The 60-minute show is interactive, taking viewers’ phone calls, emails and questions via Twitter. Read is an Evan Pugh Professor of biology and entomology, and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at Penn State. He has received international recognition for his research on the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases.

Stoute is an infectious disease specialist with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and has been in practice for 29 years. He helps to prevent, diagnose and treat infectious diseases and educate patients about the risks of infectious disease while traveling.
