Lehigh Valley announces 2014 part-semester fall courses

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Penn State Lehigh Valley is offering a number of part-semester courses for students still seeking to earn credits this fall. Students may register for these classes on eLion and can speak with their adviser for more information.

ART 020: Introduction to Drawing (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 18, Saturdays, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Online work required

Introductory experience in making of art through drawing media; designed for non-majors seeking general overview of studio practice. (GA)

CRIM 100: Introduction to Criminal Justice (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 22, Wednesdays, 6:30-9 p.m. Online work required

Overview of the criminal justice system, including legal foundations, processing and collection of offenders, extent and types of crimes, victims. (GS)

ENGL 015: Rhetoric and Composition (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 21, Tuesdays, 6:30-9 p.m. Online Work Required

Instruction and practice in writing expository prose that shows sensitivity to audience and purpose. (GWS)

GD 100: Introduction to Graphic Design (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 18, Saturdays, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

A beginning level graphic design course. Instruction touches on the practice, theories, history and processes of the graphic design industry. (GA)

HIST 173: Vietnam in War and Peace (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 20, Mondays, 6:30-9 p.m. Online work required

Rise of nationalism and communism; origins of conflict; United States involvement; impact on postwar regional and international politics; contemporary Vietnam. (GH; IL)

KINES 081: Wellness Theory (3 credits)

Focused on preparing and engaging students in the attitudes and behaviors that enhance quality of life and maximize personal potential. (GHA)

MATH 034: The Mathematics of Money (3 credits)

Simple interest, simple discount, compound interest, annuities, investments, retirement plans, taxes, credit cards and mortgages. (GQ)

NUTR 100: Contemporary Nutrition Concerns (1.5 credits)

Begins Oct. 24, Tuesdays, 9:25-10:40 a.m. Online work required.

Interpretation of nutrition principles in relation to contemporary problems in selecting a diet to promote a healthy lifestyle. Students who have received credit for NUTR 151 or NUTR 251 may not schedule this course. (GHA)

SRA 111: Introduction to Security and Risk Analysis (3 credits)

Begins Oct. 21, Tuesdays 6:30-9 p.m. Online work required

This introductory course spans areas of security, risk and analysis covering contexts in government agencies and business organizations. (GS)
