The Gallery at Penn College unveils exhibits for 2014-15

The Gallery at Penn College has announced its ninth season of engaging art exhibits for the 2014-15 academic year at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Special exhibitions honoring the 75th anniversary of Little League Baseball and the 100th anniversary of the college are among the offerings, as well as displays of denim, oil, embroidery, photography and bronze creations.

“This is the start of our ninth year of the gallery in the Madigan Library, and our new season offers a wide range of artists and contemporary art that we feel supports our commitment to providing an educational resource to our campus and a cultural asset to the community,” said Penny Griffin Lutz, manager of the gallery. “Our exhibition committee continues to be astonished by the original, high-caliber art submitted by artists applying for shows and has consistently selected exhibitions that it hopes will inspire cultural curiosity, personal growth and social awareness.”

The new season opens on Thursday, July 10, with “Collective Pop,” featuring the works of nationally celebrated pop artist Charles Fazzino and fifth-grade students from schools in Lycoming and Sullivan counties.

Honoring the 75th anniversary of Little League, the exhibit runs through Aug. 24 and includes a Meet the Artist Reception set for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18.

Other exhibits in the gallery’s lineup include “Those of Us Still Living,” denim works by James Arendt, Sept. 2 through Oct. 1; “100 Works!” the Centennial exhibition celebrating the college’s 100th anniversary and featuring works by students, alumni, employees and retirees, Oct. 10 to Nov. 9; “Lotus Eaters,” oil paintings by Jennifer R.A. Campbell, Nov. 14 to Dec. 14; “Line: Drawn and Stitched,” thread and embroidery works by Amanda McCavour, Jan. 13 to March 5; “Sim-Biotic,” photographs by Robin Germany, March 17 to April 23; “Design: 2015,” the student portfolio exhibition by senior graphic design students, May 1-15; and “Though much is taken, much abides …,” bronze sculptures and ink drawings by Ed Smith, May 28 to June 26.
