Baumgartner set to lead Smeal Marketing Department

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Hans Baumgartner, Smeal Professor of Marketing, is slated to become the next chairman of the Penn State Smeal College of Business Marketing Department.

As of July 2013, Baumgartner will replace Duncan Fong, professor of marketing and Calvin E. and Pamala T. Zimmerman Endowed Fellow, who has led the department since 2010.

“Hans is committed to promoting the welfare of the Marketing Department, and I want to thank him for agreeing to take on this important responsibility,” said Charles Whiteman, the John and Becky Surma Dean of Smeal. “I also want to thank Duncan Fong for his efforts; he will leave the department well-positioned for this transition.”

Baumgartner has been a Smeal faculty member since 1989 and brings research expertise in consumer behavior and research methodology. He holds a baccalaureate degree from the University of Innsbruck, a master of business administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and an master of science in statistics and a doctorate in marketing from Stanford University.
