June 18, 2003

Penn State Beaver's Office of Continuing Education has obtained a $40,000 education grant from the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA). The funding will provide professional development for staff members at the Aliquippa Community Hospital's Center of Excellence in Nursing. WEDnetPA is an alliance of higher education institutions and training centers in Pennsylvania that offers training, through its members, to an array of in-state and out-of-state companies that are relocating to the state. Funding is provided by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and enables organizations to train employees in basic skills and information technology. "I was really pleased that the grant came through," said Marian Vendemia, acting director of continuing education. "One of the goals of our office is to work in conjunction with local and regional companies to promote educational growth and economic development. Our partnership with the Aliquippa Community Hospital is a perfect example of why WEDnetPA funding is so vital."
