Penn State ranks No. 7 nationally in pre-season men's soccer poll

Nittany Lions incoming recruiting class tabbed as ninth best

University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State men's soccer team has been ranked No. 7 nationally according to in its 2003 pre-season top 30.

The publication also ranked the incoming recruiting class as the ninth-best nationally.

The Nittany Lions will play three of the top 10 teams in the country, including No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 UCLA and No. 10 Indiana, during the 2003 campaign.

Penn State, which went 16-8-0 and made it to the 2002 NCAA tournament's "Elite Eight," will open its season against the second-ranked Bruins on Aug. 29 in Fullerton, Calif. The top-ranked Terps and Nittany Lions will clash in a neutral-site 8 p.m. tilt on Oct. 16 at Hershey Park in Hershey.

Boston College (14th), Michigan (29th) and Bradley (30th) are other ranked opponents on the Nittany Lions' schedule.

Penn State returns seven starters from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and lost to eventual national champion UCLA.
