December 10, 2003

John Chapin, assistant professor of communications, has been selected for a $10,000, two-month fellowship with the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) Institute for Journalism Excellence. Chapin, who is also the coordinator of the Beaver campus'
baccalaureate communications degree, will begin the program next summer with a weeklong seminar in Washington, D.C., followed by six weeks of professional newsroom experience with a newspaper (to be announced next semester). To conclude the fellowship, Chapin will make several follow-up presentations at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication convention. Key objectives
of the program are to update Chapin's hands-on experience while impacting the newsroom's understanding of journalism education. Now entering its tenth year, the Institute for Journalism Excellence creates successful partnerships between journalism educators and newspapers and is supported by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. For more information, contact Chapin at, (724)
