Penn State Altoona students debut first independent film

Two Penn State Altoona students will debut their first independent film at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Penn State Altoona's Downtown Conference Center Theater.

Integrative arts/film major Ryan Rutherford and communications major Amanda Cotter, along with Altoona resident Mikel Kessling, wrote, directed and produced "Light," a film that explores what happens to three high school friends whose lives get turned upside down when they try to solve a mystery that just keeps getting stranger. The film features a number of Penn State Altoona students and local residents.

The filming process began last August. After completing a final draft, Rutherford decided to enlist the help of Kessling and his fiancee Cotter in bringing the film to the screen. After a lengthy post-production schedule, the final cut came in at one hour and nine minutes.

The film is free to the community.
