Opera Theatre presents premier of 'Overtones'

The Penn State Opera Theatre will feature the world premiere of "Overtones" by David Chavez in its fall production, "Opera Intermezzo," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20, in Esber Recital Hall, University Park. Chavez, a graduate student in music composition, was a 2004 Graduate Student Summer Resident in the Penn State Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies. His one-act opera, composed during the time of his residency, is based on the play "Overtones" by Alice Gerstenberg. Also on the program are scenes from the comedy operetta "Patience" by Gilbert and Sullivan; "The Barber of Seville" by Gioacchino Rossini; "Goethe's Werther" by Jules Massenet; and the courtroom scene from "The Crucible" by Robert Ward. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $4.
