Local artist featured at holiday ornament and gift sale

November 17, 2004

The Palmer Museum of Art will hold a one-day holiday ornament and gift sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the museum on Penn State's University Park campus. Handcrafted gifts and ornaments will be sold, and artist Laveta Piemme will be on hand to greet guests and talk about the unique processes she uses to create her porcelain ornaments, jewelry and works of art. The day also will also include musical performances, ornament-making activities for children and refreshments. Admission is free. Piemme is this year's ornament artist for the Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art. Piemme's handcrafted porcelain designs for this year's ornament are inspired by the square-within-a-square motif used throughout the Palmer Museum's architecture and stained glass. As a special feature this year, Piemme also has created a limited edition, sterling silver pendant based on the 2004 ornament design. The ornaments and pendants are available through the holidays at the Palmer Museum by calling (814) 865-7672.
