November 06, 2006

"Humans are weeds. We are probably the best weed that nature ever developed. ... We've changed the atmosphere. Anywhere you go you see our footprint."

-- Richard Alley, Evan Pugh professor of geosciences and associate of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State, speaking on "It's Worse and Better Than We Thought: The Meaning of Global Warming" at the Penn State Forum lunch on Nov. 6. Alley also said that "They've sort of turned Antarctica into Penn State's south campus," talking about the number of Penn State researchers in Antarctica. Frank Deford, Morning Edition commentator on NPR and senior contributing editor at Sports Illustrated, closes out the fall semester with "Sports: The Hype and the Hoopla" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in President's Hall at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
