August 14, 2007

University Park, Pa. -- Penn State will roll out the red carpet for the parents and families of Penn State students attending the University Park campus during the annual Parents & Families Weekend Sept. 28-30.

From meals in the dining commons to an open house with Penn State President Graham B. Spanier, to a football TV tailgating party in the HUB-Robeson Center, Penn State's University Park campus will welcome students' families with more than 60 events during a jam-packed Parents & Families Weekend. The goal of Parents & Families Weekend is to allow families to learn more about the University and the academic and non-academic opportunities available to students by participating in as many or as few events as they like.

More than 5,000 family members are expected to attend the special weekend, which is co-sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Division of Student Affairs. The majority of the weekend's events are free (except several sporting events, the football TV tailgate and meals), but families who want to attend Parents & Families Weekend are asked to pre-register at the Alumni Association's Web site at online. An extensive preliminary schedule of events also is available on the Alumni Association Web site.

The Penn State Alumni Association is the largest dues-paying alumni association in the world with more than 159,000 members. Established in 1870, the Alumni Association strives to connect alumni to the University and to each other, provide valuable benefits to members and support the University's mission of teaching, research and service.
