October 24, 2008

The American Heart Association awarded Fit Friendly status to Penn State Fayette for creating a healthy workplace environment. The American Heart Association recognizes employers for progressive leadership and encouraging healthy practices for employees.

Kathy Iannamorelli, the campus’s health nurse and disability liaison, reports there are several ongoing initiatives at Penn State’s Fayette campus to promote wellness and good health. "Our campus is particularly suited for walking and Chancellor Emmanuel Osagie is encouraging all of our staff, faculty and students to walk the approximately 1-mile loop of our campus as often as possible. We have several nutrition plans in place through Penn State’s Health Matters program. And a variety of wellness events and activities are scheduled throughout the year." The campus also boasts a fitness center, which students, faculty and staff can use.

Fit Friendly status is awarded for a one-year period. Penn State Fayette’s Fit Friendly status runs through Oct. 1, 2009.
