Industrial engineers' paper wins award from IIE

A paper authored by three Penn State industrial engineers has won a best paper from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).

The project, titled "Detecting Robust Community Structures: A Robust Optimization Approach," won the best paper award in the computer and information systems track for the best published paper on computer and information systems in industrial engineering.

It was authored by Soundar Kumara, the Allen E. Pearce/Allen M. Pearce Chaired Professor of Industrial Engineering; Tao Yao, assistant professor of industrial engineering; and Supreet Reddy Mandala, a graduate student in industrial engineering.

The paper will be presented at the Industrial Engineering Research Conference, which is in conjunction with the IIE annual conference in June.
