IE names 2009 Oldcastle Cup winners

May 19, 2009

The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering recently announced the winners of the 2009 Oldcastle Cup.

The annual award is presented to an undergraduate student team that successfully applies their course knowledge to yield the best production process.

This year's winning team includes Katie Slaughter, Jennifer Hendriks, Caitlin Cronk, Megan Steiminger, William Walton, William Whetzel and Maxwell Smith. The contest was hosted by Ed DeMeter, professor of industrial engineering, as part of his IE 306 Machining Process Design and Analysis course.

The contest is sponsored by Oldcastle, a worldwide group of building product manufacturers whose goods include architectural masonry and concrete products. Since 2005, junior-level students enrolled in specific industrial engineering courses form small teams and compete for the cup. The competition, held each spring semester, charges students with choosing a specific product and analyzing it from design concept to its actual production.

The cup winners will have their names etched on the Oldcastle plaque displayed in the Leonhard Building and receive a monetary prize.
