Students can help Penn State win carpooling challenge, win prizes

October 09, 2009

Penn Staters can flex their environmental muscle in carpooling Web site Alternetride’s "Fall Campus Challenge." The competition, which is a part of the University’s RideShare program, pits colleges and universities against each other to find which school signs up the most carpoolers during the month of October.

Students looking to share a ride can match up with others who are heading home, riding to campus or taking a trip to a big city. The competition is a great way for students to save money and help Penn State win the challenge. Participants also will be entered to win prizes such as movie tickets or an iPod Nano.

There are nine other participating universities, including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Texas, Oregon State University, and the University of Alaska.

Students who pledge to give RideShare a try this month will be entered to win. For more information on RideShare and the Fall Campus Challenge, contact parking manager Jean Harris at
