Trash to Treasure donations accepted starting Dec. 7

November 17, 2009

University Park, Pa. -- As they pack for winter break, students may find items in their rooms that they no longer want. Rather then taking the items home or throwing them away, students can donate their gently used, unwanted items to the Trash to Treasure winter sale.

Donation bins will be set up in the residence halls from Dec. 7 to 18, and any student who lives on campus can donate items like furniture, clothes, bedding and electronics. More details about where to drop off donations will be posted in the residence halls in the coming weeks.

Each year, Penn State student donations have kept over 60 tons of usable goods out of the landfill. Trash to Treasure has raised over $370,000 during its eight years with all proceeds benefiting the Centre County United Way.

The winter sale will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Feb. 6 in 106 Fisher Hall. Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the sale and to assist on sale day. For more information about Trash to Treasure or about how to volunteer, visit online.
