Valentine's Day-themed Science-U Camp to be offered Feb. 12

Penn State’s Science-U Camps will be offering a special Valentine’s Day-themed camp on Feb. 12. "iLove Science: Chemistry’s Chemistry," will offer two, two-hour sensory experiences for students in grades six to 12. The camp will be held in 119 Osmond Lab on Penn State’s University Park campus and will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $45 per student and includes a mid-morning snack.

In the first lab, "Potions," students will learn how fragrances are made and make their own perfume, cologne, or body wash with essential oils. During the second lab, "Bean to Bar," special guest speaker Greg Ziegler, Penn State Food Science’s “Dr. Chocolate,” will present a brief history of chocolate and its physiological effects on the brain. Campers will test different cocoa powders and make their own chocolate bars. To round out the day, students will investigate hygiene chemistry and the scientific laws of attraction.

Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to register for the camp, visit online.
